Here I will talk about my list on my top ten favorite games of all time and why. I do recommend any of these games to you but only if you are interested in the genre since not all games are for everyone. If I'm missing any details without spoiling the game for others, let me know.
10. Stella Glow
This is a fantasy tactical RPG in which talks about the main character Alto the conductor, a being able to tap into a witch's power. In order to stop the time witch, Hilda, from crystallizing the world, Alto joins the royal knights, along with his childhood friend, Lisette. He must find and gather the other witches and use their power to save the world. The story is nothing too original but the characters and the soundtrack is amazing, and has multiple endings. Sadly, its last on the list because of how frustrating the final battles were. I thought the final bosses in the Final Fantasy games were hard. This game is for the 3DS.
9. Fire Emblem series
Another tactical RPG that I'm quite fond of because it was my first. Though my favorite would have to be Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, I'm a big fan of all the older games. What makes this different from Stella Glow is there are consequences if your character lose, once they're defeated they're dead and gone forever, so use your characters with caution. The reason it's so low on this list is because Awakening and the games past that didn't appeal to me, as I said, I'm more into the older games. Such a shame, if they kept it as how they were in the older ones, then the series would be higher on the list. However, if you are new to the series, feel free to play it if you want. Systems vary from Game Boy, Game Boy Advanced, DS, Game Cube, Wii and 3DS.
8. Yo-Kai Watch
You could say that this is a Pokemon-like game. There are lots of yokai in the city and you have to befriend them in order to help people and protect the city from evil monsters. What's different about it is you don't have control of the yokai in battle, all you can do is switch, use items and command them to unleash their ultimate attacks. However, don't let the idea that you can't command them in battle get to you, its still an interesting game and can get challenging if you aren't prepared. It's really addicting to catch new yokai, complete quests and fight boss yokai. This game is for the 3DS.
7. Pokemon series
What kind of Poke-fan would I be if I didn't mention Pokemon? This is just one of the first games I had in my childhood. Everybody with a Game Boy had this game. We were all catching 'em all and trading Pokemon. Even today people still do that. After many, many years, Pokemon is still a popular game and it will always be my favorite. There may be a few flaws in the new games, but its nothing to sway you away from buying the games. Game Boy, Game Boy Advanced, DS, 3DS
6. Persona series
All I can say is that its a turn-based RPG which involves people summoning the power of their souls called Persona in order to fight demons and shadows. Like the Fire Emblem games, each game has a different story and different cast of characters. But if you look closely, you might find some small connections to previous games. The more familiar games are 3 and 4, those having memorable characters and top notch soundtracks. PlayStation, PS2, PS3, PSP, PS Vita
5. Bravely Default
One of the best RPGs I've ever played. If you are a fan of the older Final Fantasy games, then you might like this game. It talks about 4 characters on a quest to save the world from darkness. What's different about this from a Final Fantasy game is the option of Brave and Default. With Default, you basically guard while storing a turn. With brave, you used those stored turns to unleash multiple attacks. Use it wisely and you'd practically be unstoppable. 3DS
4. Professor Layton series
This series of games are mostly puzzle games. They star Professor Layton and his assistant, Luke, as they crack puzzles in order to solve the strangest of mysteries. Each game has an interesting story and I recommend this game to anyone who loves puzzle solving. A warning, some puzzles will be very hard and there are times you can't progress into the story until you solve a certain number of puzzles. DS, 3DS
3. Lost Dimension
Truly one of, if not, my favorite strategy RPG. The world is about to be destroyed in 13 days by a terrorist who calls himself the agent of the apocalypse. In order to defeat him, the United Nations send in SEALED, a group of 11 young psychics, each with their own unique power, to the Pillar in order to stop this evil villain. The terrorist dares them to try to kill him. However, he warns them among their groups their are traitors, and to make things worse, in order to progress into the tower, they have to sacrifice someone to do so. Your best bet is to sacrifice the traitor, but who can it be? This game encourages you to replay it several times to reveal the true ending, and luckily, no playthrough is the same, since there are new traitors in every new playthrough. This game simply isn't a typical tactical RPG, you have to figure out who the traitor is. it truly is heartbreaking to bond with your characters only having to know that one may be an enemy and you have to kill them to proceed. PS3 and PS Vita
2. Ace Attorney
This is a game I would recommend to everyone if given the chance. It's pretty much an adventure visual novel. You play as a lawyer in which your job is to prove your clients innocent of mostly murder cases by gathering evidence, interrogating witnesses, then taking things to court. Nothing about this game is like your typical courtroom dramas you see on TV. There is mostly chaos, and the characters are crazy. There are times when it will be serious and dark, but do expect some funny moments. The music is great, you will love the characters, from the rookie lawyer, Phoenix Wright, to the genius prosecutor, Miles Edgeworth, and even Phoenix's goofy assistant, Maya Fey. There are a few spin-off games which I definitely recommend getting if you end up liking the series. DS, 3DS
OH. MY. GOD!!!!! i fear I may have to keep this as brief as possible so I don't have to spoil the game for you. Anyway, this is an indie game RPG that tells the story of a boy that climbs a mountain and falls into a hole, ending up in a world full of monsters. Not being able to climb out of the hole, you have to find a way to go home. In this game, you have a choice of whether to fight the monsters or to not kill them by sparing them. This game encourages you to think carefully on your choice, for this game will remember EVERY choice you make, whether its good or bad. Even if you restart the game, it'll still remember what you did. Scary, huh? Anyway, the characters in this game are lovable and memorable, the soundtrack is phenomenal, and get ready for all sorts of feels. This is one game I would tell everyone to give it a try. Be sure to play it until the end before deciding on whether you like it or not. PC, Steam.
These are the games I really love. Feel free to leave a comment if you'd like to share your opinions on these games, or if you want to recommend any new games or games similar to those in this list.
